I’m going to begin with Raphael. I really don’t have a REASON for starting with him other than I’m sorting him to MY house.
I consider Raphael my fellow Slytherin.
First let me dispel a thing about Slytherins. Slytherins are not all evil, just as not all Gryffindors are all good. Hell, all Hufflepuffs aren’t good.
Let’s look at what the Sorting Hat has to say in year one about Slytherins
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
Slytherins can have many different motivations and loyalties, however they share one major trait. They will use ANY MEANS to reach their ends. They are less likely to have moral qualms, or worry about injury to self. For a Slytherin the ends always justify the means.
Raph is usually concerned with taking out the bad guy and keeping his family safe. The direct route, become a living wreaking ball to tear through the enemy and keep his family safe.
He is direct and not above blatantly threatening to get what he wants. He wanted information out of Snake, he starts to pour mutagen on him. Yes, it was just dripping out…but it had started to leave the container meaning Raph was serious. When Kurtzman was sneaking about, Raph put his sai to his throat without a second thought to contrast with Leo STARTING to pull his weapon when he felt April was threatened.
You do not mess with a Slytherin, or anyone a slytherin thinks is “theirs”. You will end up a painful (in one way or another) mess.
Another one of the sorting hat’s songs say
And power-hungry Slytherin
Loved those of great ambition.
Raph is VERY ambitious. He wants to be leader, he wants to be the BEST. When he wins against his brothers he will gloat about it endlessly, his proof that he is best at whatever thing. He doesn’t like to take orders from Leo because he thinks he should be leader, even after experiencing the role and failing at it he still wants it. He probably even struggles internally at this because in action it would come into conflict with one of his main motivators.
It is hard to make the choice to put a family member in a certain amount of danger if you are trying to protect them from danger.
This is not to say that Raph couldn’t be a Gryffindor. It could honestly go either way. As the Sorting Hat takes into account what you ask for
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
By Gryffindor, the bravest were
Prized far beyond the rest;
Chivalry is the only thing I can’t really say fits Raph. He easily could be a Gryffindor. You also have to take into account the fact that the Hat takes your choice into consideration.
Basically Raph could be Slytherin or Gryffindor. His choice would come into play and I really don’t know how he would stand on this. But for the purposes of one guy to each house, Raphael is an easy fit to Slytherin.
